After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1973, I decided that I would enter the field of public education. After 6 years of successful and rewarding experiences in secondary education, I decided to return to college and obtain a Masters Degree in Education. Upon receiving my Masters in 1984, I taught at the post secondary level in both Virginia and North Carolina. At the post secondary level, I had the opportunity to teach a wide variety of subjects from Math to Business Administration. I thoroughly enjoy teaching students at various ages and stages of development. I consider myself to be very creative, and I try to give the students as much hands-on experience as possible. My teaching style can vary depending on what age level that I am teaching. According to Erik Erickson, there are eight stages of learning that we develop as children until we become an adult learner. So for the ages (2-7) my teaching style would be a hands- on learning approach. There would be a lot of visual aids and colorful pictures. Since children at this age learn through their senses. I have just recently started to pursue my doctoral degree in educational leadership at University of Phoneix. I have always had a passion for mentoring, teaching, and advising young people. I have had tons of experience working with youth and mentoring them. At age 18, I even started a youth outreach ministry called Serenity Ambassadors for Christ reaching at risk teenagers through music and biblical teaching.
