I use positive motivation with my students, explaining how subject matter being covered should relate to them and their future successes. I try to link the subjects with current events and how lack of knowledge on specific subjects can cost them either financially or impact their health and well being. I first assess what the student feels they know, then look at what needs to be learned and from that I build a goal-oriented task set that should result in a learned skill set.
