Any level of Mathematics!

First I write down the rules for students to use as a guide to solve problems. I believe the old saying "repetition is the father of learning" is very true. As a student in college, I had a professor who would walk into the class room, and begin writing example after example. I have adopted that approach because it helps students become familiar and establish a routine to problem solving. Then I solve some more similar problems while explaining the rules in each step. Finally after solving many problems of my own, the students solve problems from the text book. I also provide references to material that can help advance the student’s knowledge.

My teaching style, is to find the way the child learns best. Math can be taught thru several different methods or strategies. I really enjoy children and have found that it is just a minor thing or so that causes them to not like math, but when they see that there is more than one way to solve problems they change their minds. I liken tutoring sessions to the repair of a crumbling pyramid. I believe that every student is capable of learning and understanding the material that is presented to them in class, but that due to some reason, he or she does not understand some of the basic concepts that later material adds onto. Hence, the base of their pyramid is unstable. Usually in the first tutoring session, I try to gauge where the student is supposed to be in the material while at the same time trying to figure out where the missing foundation stones are.
