Hands-on, smiles-on!

Hey! My names Bethy! I'm 13 years old and in 8th grade. I've been tutoring since I was in 5th grade. I can tutor all ages in almost any subject. Last year I had the highest GPA in my whole school! I love teaching anyone who is willing to learn! I also teach children with learning disabilities and special needs.
I am very laid back and flexible. While I might be calm I only have 3 rules, 1. Be respectful, 2. the words "I can't" are not allowed :), and 3. have fun! I tend to create games based on the skills that are being taught and I'm not into lecturing, my approach is very hands. Learning can be fun!

I chose the field of education because I believe that every child deserves to be educated in a safe, caring, and stimulating environment where they can strive to meet their maximum potential. Every student is capable of learning and succeeding with the right differentiated instruction that meets their individual needs. I believe in a hands on approach to teaching where students are encouraged to discuss their learning process in a classroom that is filled with rich discussions and free of ridicule. Each student that I have worked with has left with greater confidence and a life long love of learning.
Since graduating from Queens College with my degree in Mathematics and Elementary and Early Childhood Education I have had the opportunity to work in many different areas of education and taking on many different roles. I have tutored students from grades kindergarten through 12th grad ... read more

I believe that education is a fundamental pillar in a person's life, that anyone can learn, and that people can teach each other. My goal is to help students learn what they need to be successful by using hands-on approaches where they can manipulate subject matter and "own it," meaning that they understand it thoroughly. I believe that teaching is reciprocal; in that I can teach for a student to learn and also that a student can teach me so that I can learn. I would strive to inspire a curiosity of learning and loving to learn by providing students with the experiences and opportunities to become comfortable with the material being studied. My motto for teaching is “Let go and jump in” because the only way students can learn and “own it” is by letting go of their fears in learning and get their hands into the subject matter.
As a recent graduate from Framingham State College, I h ... read more

I started around 2005 tutoring for the departments of chemistry and math in Queensborough Community College, from the basic levels in organic chemistry 2 and calculus. I earned my Associate degree in science from Queensborough Community College and finished my Bachelor Degree in Stonybrook University. At Stonybrook University also tutor chemistry and math. During the summer 2006, I had the entire department of chemistry tutoring under my guide. My experience comes from teaching my own classes and from interacting with my students.
My style is open to discussion. I like to ask questions to the student about the knowledge they have and based on that, apply my knowledge to build a strong base to be used as a core to solve more problems. I live the one on one interaction but also love the group discussion. I used to tutor an entire classroom during summer for 6 hours straight.

I believe that teaching is a great challenge, and even though some types of learning are best conveyed in a traditional fashion, for most other types of learning, a non-traditional form of is more enjoyable. As a future educator, I will have a whole classroom full of individuals with different learning styles, different strengths, weaknesses, attitudes, lifestyles, and different motivations, and because of this, I will have to make sure that my students feel connected to what they are learning.
I am a dedicated educator eager to resume tutoring. I offer a proven track record of commended performance teaching and assisting students in grades preschool-12th, with a passion for education and a commitment to optimizing student and school success.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children and getting to know them and their learning styles. Each child learns in different ways and I like to focus on using a variety of methods. Some children are more visual learners, while others are auditory learners. I often like to "conference" with my students and get their feed back to know what is working for them or not and give them the effective strategies that work for them best. I strive to give them confidence in what they are doing and enjoy what they are learning. Teachers who are enthuastic, supportive, and understanding can make a world of difference to a child's educational program.
I am a graduate from Albertus Magnus College and my concentration was in Child Development. Most of my education included studying the child's brain and how it develops and learns. Studying child development has become essential to my practice as a teacher in t ... read more

I would say that all people are capable of learning and improving their abilities, knowledge, and skill. My experience has been that if a child, youth, or adult is given the space in which to learn, and introduced to material in a patient manner, in the style that works for them (be that through explanation or visual learning, etc) they will take the initiative to learn and grow at the pace and direction which works for them. People are naturally inclined to learn and grow, and my experience is that when given the opportunity and supportive role of a teacher, they will become interested in learning and continue to do so.
After graduating from college with a BA, I began working for an environmental restoration and public education program. We led large volunteer groups sometime of more than 100 people, in local park and forest restoration event, and also led youth groups on 10 day r ... read more

I have recently graduated from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. While attending university, I studied various courses- natural science, social science, criminal justice, biology- but my true passion lies in foreign language. French and Portuguese were my primary languages studied. I am pleased to say that I was lucky enough to have studied abroad for a semester in Paris, France. Throughout my life, I have tutored colleagues (though in a non-professional setting) in foreign language.
My philosophy is that education should be as individualized as possible because people do not learn in the same manner. For instance, some people are visual learners while others, like myself, are auditory learners. I strongly believe that educators should expose their students to as many fields and ideas as possible. For instance, when I am teaching, I prefer to instruct students on ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Upon graduating from Radford University in Virginia, I accepted a position teaching Pre-Kindergarten at Cheshire Country Day School, located in Milldale, CT. I worked at CCDS during the previous summers as an aide while I was on breaks from school. I will receive my Master's Degree in Special Education, focusing on Serious Emotional Disabilities, with a cross-endorsement (K-12) in December 2010. My most recent tutoring experience involved tutoring a first grade student in reading. We met on a weekly basis throughout the school year and during the summers for 2 years.
My passion is teaching, it always has been. If I could describe my teaching style in one word, it would be caring. Children need to be cared for and know that they can trust you as their teacher. Once that trust is formed, they will be more apt to succeed. My experience teaching four and five year old Pre- ... read more

As a hardworking individual with excellent communication skills, I would like to explore the possibility of putting my talents and experience to help children. Currently I have a successful and satisfying career with Artwell Gallery, a nonprofit community based art gallery. However I am looking forward to embarking on a new career. I hold a BA in Radio, Television, and Film from Rowan University. For three years I worked in a pre-school teaching Art to students aged three to five.
I had once been told by a very seasoned teacher that "If you can not go through the front door find an open window." She opened my eyes to creative, and interesting ways to stimulate young minds. I love helping children learn, and finding their open window. A great teacher can incorporate different styles of teaching to adapt to a child's learning ability.
