I have been teaching 8th grade math(pre-Algebra,Algebra,Geometry) for 10 years. I have been very successful in improving students scores. Last year my pre-algebra students made a growth of 6.55 according to Evaas score data. My teaching style is based on reading then reviewing. At that point in time ask questions to see if the student has grasped the information being given. If not, answer questions then clarify. When reviewing information it is important to make sure the student knows reasoning behind subject matter so that they are understanding logic and not just memorizing information. In subjects that invloves math such as probability, chemistry, or statistics, I would do a few examples followed by letting the tutee working a few problems.
