More About This Tutor...

I have had an opportunity to teach in several different locations and age groups. I first taught in a low income preschool where I focused on making children excited to learn through presenting the material in an interesting manor. Next, I spent two semesters in college working as a general chemistry lab instructor. I used the scientific method to have the students reach conclusions on their own and to have to present and explain these conclusions to their peers. I spent the last two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer where I gave many training and worked to teach a youth group. I tried to remain culturally sensitive and work to have the students remain comfortable and work to collaborate with each other.
I received my BS in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. I worked as a laboratory instructor for general chemistry where I was responsible for students’ utilizing proper sa ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student who has achieved academic excellence at a tri-fecta of prestigious Boston schools, I am committed to promoting the value of education. In 2006, I earned a bachelor's degree in Communications and Hispanic Studies from Boston College, which enabled me to gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of language and communicative arts. I also developed excellent communication and writing skills through writing intensive seminars and public speaking courses, along with essays in many various areas of study. I am currently pursuing a law degree at Northeastern University School of Law and a master's in public health at Tufts University School of Medicine. Completing both degrees in 2009, I continue to develop a wide range of skills. More About This Tutor...

I like to begin tutoring a new student by having them review for me the material they have already learned. This allows me to develop a sense of their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their learning style. Often, I have students practice problems to reinforce concepts they already know and help build confidence in their problem solving abilities. In occasions of group tutoring, I try to have students help each other, as the teaching process is one that helps build a stronger idea of the concept at hand. I feel that I have thoroughly achieved my goal when a student has not only learned the material, but is able to demonstrate and teach the material back.
I recently earned a BS in Physics, with minors in Mathematics, Economics, and Asian Studies. During my four years working toward my degree, I worked as a tutor to students of other physics courses as well as a teaching assistant ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children in this country have a right to a world class education. I also believe that education is a partnership between the teachers, parents and students but, understand that due to economic and social conditions not all parents are as active in their child education. I have tutored children in Reading and Math and I have often been told that I try to make learning as easy as possible by relating the topics being taught to topics that the students encounter in there every day lives
I have been working with children as a baseball coach and softball umpire for over 25 years and often parents have told me that I must be a teacher as I worked so well with children. Five years ago I decided to change careers from management and go into education. I went back to school and completed a masters program in elementary education with a 3.8 G.P.A. I am certified to teach i ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am a firm believer in a well rounded education and that excellence in one subject complements excellence in another. Although I majored in Economics and minored in history, I took an abundance of science courses in order to satisfy prerequisites for dental school (not to mention my course load in dental school). Pursuing the liberal arts has enabled me to have a broad perspective and approach to all subject areas and equipped me to be proficient in tutoring Chemistry, Biology, Economics, English, History, Mathematics, and most other disciplines.
I believe in making subject matter relevant to your child's life and strive to transform dry or abstract theory into an area of enlivened academic interest. One's ability to learn is directly proportional to the interest that can be mustered for the subject and it is not subjects, but the presentation of subjects, that fluctuate in thei ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

This past September I became a tutor in the Special Needs Department at Masconomet Regional Junior High School. I chose this department and school because I was once a student in the program. Currently, I work with 12 specific students that all have severe add and adhd. Each day we create activities that focus on their weaknesses in math and English. In addition to these two subject areas, I also attend their normally scheduled classes (Science and World Cultures). This way whenever they struggle, they know they can always count on me to assist them with their weakness.
I would define my teaching style as hands on. If I can find a real life example of the material at hand, I will use it. I love to work on whiteboards/ chalkboards with students. This way they are out of their seat and showing me what they know. I am very willing to bend to any style of learning. Playing ga ... read more

I have found that I have a passion for teaching children of all ages. For that reason, I am pursuing a career in teaching. I have taken the Communications and Literacy MTEL and will be taking the Elementary Math MTEL on May 9th of this year. I find the best way to help a student is to find out what they are passionate about. I find out about their likes and dislikes both in school and in life and try to gain their trust so they are more likely to be interested in getting tutored by me. I mix in some praise with some constructive criticism.
Even though I have been in the financial services field for over 16 years, I have tutored students both in college and after college. I was a volunteer freshman basketball coach at North Cambridge Catholic for 3 years. I was a volunteer tutor every Saturday morning for the Steppingstone Foundation where I mentored middle school and high sc ... read more

Whether I am helping a student with prioritizing assignments, studying for tests, teaching study skills, or guiding him or her process of writing papers, I strive to promote metacognitive awareness throughout the tutoring experience. Students ultimately need to develop an awareness of how they learn best and what strategies work for them. It is my job to facilitate this process while yielding improved academic results through collaboration with students along the way.
Over the course of my years as a Learning Specialist in a university setting, and as Master Tutor Certified by The College Reading and Learning Association, I have developed and refined successful techniques with students who may struggle with the following: executive functioning issues, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, Asberger’s Syndrome, English as a Second Language, and various non-verbal learning disabilities.
