I grew up reading the nutritional panel on everything. I was absolutely fascinated how the body used the food that we eat to derive the energy and perform the tasks necessary for life. This interest in the human body led me to pursue a degree in nutrition. I recently graduated Brigham Young University the honored graduate of my college with a BS in Nutritional Science. I feel that repetition is one key that helps students grasp difficult concepts. I start by helping the student understand what the question is asking. Then I will do a problem step by step, showing the student what I am doing. Next, I will have the student do the same problem, but recreate the steps that I had shown them, guiding them along the way. After this type of practice, we will move on to similar problems, using the same steps that we previously used. I have found that this system helps me learn the information and retain it. I will be patient because I understand that these concepts do not come easily. My teaching style can be easily adapted to meet the student’s needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a classroom teacher for the last 18 years. I have taught in both Public Junior High and High Schools, as well as Private School. I love teaching science, and love to make the class exciting. It really gets students going when you use current events to teach and when kids debate issues, it is a great learning opportunity!
I think all children are driven to learn, and if directed with a little help, everyone can learn how science changes peoples lives. I feel more like a coach and less like a lecturer. I love teaching and biology is my best subject. I have earned BS in Biology education which also has helped me to gain understanding of chemistry and math.I graduated in 2008 and since then I had only 4 months of teaching experience in a school. I took two years out of my college career at BYU to serve a full time church mission in Ecuador. In Ecuador I learned to speak Spanish fluently and while there taught multiple hours everyday to educate others about the gospel. Although this may not be directly related with school the teaching experience is. I have graduated with a bachelor in science and am very well educated in physics, biology, and chemistry. My experience in Ecuador has allowed me to become comfortable with teaching others and helping them grasp the subject material.
