I have a holistic, eclectic style of Teaching. When I work with any student,or students, I always determine what proficient level they are at.If they are having any problems grasping the subject, I must do diagnostic testing to remediate at progress from that point forward. When the student has reached a level of proficiency,he or she may move on to whatever subect,or level that pertains to. Yes, each student is unique and can reach their full potential under the right guidance encouragement, and support. Yet, I firmly believe that all students must master the fundamentals, no matter what subject.
As a private school and state school graduate,I recieved a broad and varied background in higher education.I taught at two Catholic Schools. I have performed also as a substitute teacher with the experience of teaching at most grade levels and subjects. I have also performed Homebound Teac ... read more

My comments on tutoring Chess : Introduction, Mastering the Pieces, Tactics, Opening Principals, Pawn Structure, Evaluation of Position, Endgame Evaluation.

"Chess lessons" are usually just that, chess lessons. I think that there are more dynamics to teaching chess than just moving the pieces. Most chess lessons for beginners, start with an introduction to chess. I teach this way too, but everything I am able to teach starts with respect. Every person should understand and accept that they will not always win. They must also accept that they may not always play their best. They must also respect their opponent. So often chess "coaches" forget about these key elements and life lessons. Tradition and culture are important to me and my style of teaching. With these few elements, learning is fun and the teaching is effective. Prime teaching focuses are: 1) Introduction to chess a) Learning the chess board b) Getting to know the pieces 2) Tactics a) Purposes of each piece b) Discovery 3) Strategy a) Opening Principals b) O ... read more

As a literacy volunteer I was awakened to a deep desire to achieve my degree in a career in the helping profession. This profession opened doors for a career change in education. I embraced the challenges of a teacher/professor for students ranging from kindergarten to senior citizens, both in the class room setting and one-on-one tutoring in the home settings and community programs. Teaching continues to be the common thread that binds my life experiences with the core person I continue to grow into.
I love working with people of all ages and from a verity of cultures in an educational setting. I firmly believe that every person can learn but that each person has a dominate and secondary learning style of their own. In order to enhance learning for the student, I enjoy the challenge of developing and implementing lesson plans to match the students learning style. My teaching ... read more

As a Research Scientist in Corporate America, I took the opportunity to focus on enhancing the math and science education of high, middle, and elementary school students. In addition to hands-on classroom activities, I was involved in the Program In Rochester to Interest Students in Science and Math (PRISSM), judged Science Fairs and Science Competitions. Because of my goal of enhancing student achievement, I have taught Chemistry at the Junior College level for the past eight years. I love the appreciation of English Literature and English Grammar as well and so, upon retirement, have taught French and Latin to students in middle school and high school.
The word student comes from the Latin to be eager, and I love to instill the love of learning, n eagerness to learn, in children. The education or drawing out of a child's mind is the ultimate goal, and doing so in a discipline ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to work well with individuals and small groups, independent of their age - I have worked with everyone from elementary school and below up to adult learners on a factory floor. My main goal is to teach by finding out what the pupil already knows and relating the subject matter to them through the already established knowledge base. Combining this this direct experience with analogy tends to bring what sometimes starts as an incomprehensible subject into the realm of what they already know and have a feel for, making them more comfortable with the subject and better able to grasp the concepts.
As a mechanical engineering graduate with 3 years of practical experience in the field, I am constantly curious of the world around me and take great delight in sharing and imparting that knowledge in others. The degree itself grounds me firmly in the math and science worlds - everyt ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Between my studies at Roberts Wesleyan College in the liberal arts field, where I earned a bachelors degree, and my studies in math and computational science I have an exceptionally broad knowledge base. My work experience further illustrates this having worked briefly as an English teacher in Prague as well as the various sales and customer service jobs I have had including Verizon Wireless, Wegmans, and Radio Shack.
I love working with people and teaching them about the things that I am passionate about. I am very patient and throughout and I have learned a lot of valuable techniques such as asking the right questions to confirm that the student has learned the lesson as well as planning out what the important points are that I need to cover. I also try to illustrate points using a variety of learning styles that over time I can customize to individual students.

Given my knowledge of mathematics, I love teaching it and working with students, so they too can be experts and appreciate its value in their future endeavors. I am able to work with students at a pace that fits their needs. I understand that not all students learn at the same level, and so creating an appropriately stimulating environment for utmost grasping or concentration is very critical to success in teaching mathematics. Not only am I open-minded to other options that help impact the mathematics concepts but I am also patient, and considerate of each student’s level of mathematics with respect to a given topic. I give examples that help students discover and find it even more interesting to learn mathematics. My goal is to give each and every student I am assigned the guarantee that at the end of the tutoring period, they actually succeed in mathematics.
