A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with students at all levels from pre-k to doctoral students and a present I tutor Master's degree students on how to write their dissertations. It is my contention that students are capable of far more than has been expected of them. The result of my perspective is that I now have students who are college professors themselves, teachers and IT professionals. My teaching experience was when I was in practice as a psychiatrist. I served as a preceptor to residents in the Family Practice residence program, St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, DE, for about five years in the 1980s. I would apply that experience to the teaching of French, and Russian
I would assess and teach high school and college-level students with a conversational method. This would help identify the areas of deficiency. I would also supplement this with reading and writing. Whatever texts the student would have from their institution would be the basic source of course planning. Supplemental reading needs might then also be identified and assigned.

I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. Some are more visual, others are more auditory so I tried to not only explain but also show by using whatever tools necessary/applicable (graphs, pictures, charts, etc.)
