A Little Bit About Me...

My name is Kary Heath. I graduated valedictorian from Luther High School in the spring of 2014. I am in my second semester at the University of Oklahoma and currently have 38 hours of college credit. I am currently maintaining a 4.0. I am an education major. I chose to pursue education because a large portion of my immediate family is teachers, including my parents and several of my aunts, uncles and grandparents. I graduated with an ACT score of 34, which awarded me the State Regents' Scholarship. I was also a National Merit Qualifier with a PSAT score of 204 in 2013. Teaching is a means to find a student's misconceptions and correct them. I try to do this by engaging the students in conversation, asking them leading questions, or watching them work. I try to build classroom bonds, making communication easier. Once the students feel comfortable, it is easier to get them to talk and share their actual thoughts and ideas (which might be brilliant or flawed).

As a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, I began my teaching career in mathematics at the junior high school level. I taught Algebra I to eighth graders. While teaching, I returned to school and received my M.Ed as a Reading Specialist. After working in that area for a few years, I became an inner city high school principal. I remained in that capacity for approximately twenty years. I was searching for a new challenge and joined the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to administer an AmeriCorp grant called Smart Start for Brain Gain 2010.
