Ever since I was in sixth grade, I have had opportunities to help children learn and see the benefits first hand from what I taught them. When I graduated from high school, I followed a different career path, but after a terrible car accident that left me unable to fly airplanes, I made a decision to go back to school and follow my love for teaching children. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I started teaching in the fall of 1985 in Tampa. After that first year I moved and I taught a few years in Ohio. In 1989 I moved to Brevard County and worked as an elementary school teacher. I received my degree in Educational Leadership in 1996. I now tutor and work part time with small groups.

Very hands on type of person. I am the type of person that needs visual reminders to get my work done. I know that everyone learns in different capacities so I try to incorporate that into my teaching style. I work on identifying the students learning style and then we go from there.
I am currently working at Challenger 7 Elementary School as the only Guidance Counselor. My teaching style starts with finding out what the student knows and what is the best way they learn. Not everyone learns the same way and it is hard for students to ask for help. What I find to be the most successful in teaching and mentoring is to learn more about the student and use real life examples that interest them to teach them the material that they need to learn. Also, reading their cues on when they are bored and need more of a challenge, or are in need of me slowing down and more of a review is also important.
