A Little Bit About Me...

Before I was a teacher, I was a one on one teacher associate with special needs children for six years. I have been teaching 8th grade special for almost three years. I have taught self contained math, reading, and language arts. I have also been in a collaborative language arts classroom. After school, I am an elementary school tutor. for the past two summers, I have taught summer school.

I don't have a style. When I left high school in rural Iowa I was told I was retarded and would never even be able to write a check. At age 38 when struggling through Iowa State my chem teacher sent me to be tested for learning disabilities and I had multiple learning disabilities but an above average IQ. I don't teach I allow the student to learn in an environment where they are listened to, talked with(not to) and treated like they have value and worth. I treat them the opposite way I was treated. And when they do well we cheer together!

A Little Bit About Me...

I have discovered that every individual no matter what age has the ability to learn and adapt. It is how the learning occurs and in what way the individual finds success that is the focus of my teaching styles. My personal style of educating is focused around a person centered philosophy and the knowledge that every individual has different ways of learning.
