My comments on tutoring Political Science : My college minor was International Affairs. I also interned at the U.S. Congress, both House and Senate, as a college student. My tutoring experience includes AP U.S. Government, but I can also easily assist with AP Comparative Government. I spent three summers teaching international politics to gifted middle school students for Johns Hopkins.

This is my fourth year tutoring middle and high school students in History and Government. I also have professional classroom teaching experience and volunteer elementary school teaching experience. My students, primarily Global History, World History and European History students, have raised their class grades, passed the Regents exam by many points and earned high scores on the AP. I specialize in both content acquisition and essay writing skills. Some students have worked with me for half a year or more, others for a month or two before cumulative exams.
Students being tutored one-on-one deserve lessons customized to their learning style. My sessions often incorporate some writing and topic discussion along with activities tailored to the student's interests, skill development needs and preferences.

While earning my undergraduate degree in Physics, I took advantage of a work-study opportunity at Franklin and Marshall and became a Physics and Chemistry Tutor for the introductory classes. In addition to tutoring science students at college, I also was the TA for a class that explored the role of racism in America's history titled "America in Black and White". I would have to say that my teaching style is flexibility. I believe that it is necessary to gauge your students as a group and individually before deciding on which teaching methods would be most effective. I believe that naturalistic teaching is important. I also believe in a form of discrete trial training. It takes some of the basics from Discrete Trial and adapts them to fit the needs of the students that are struggling with certain subjects. Research has proven that all students learn differently and lessons cannot be taught primarily through auditory learning. A teacher especially one in the younger grades must engage in auditory, visual, tactile, kinestics and other learning methods.
