I am a stickler for proper sentence structure, grammar, and spelling; I believe that a command of written English can open doors in life which appeared previously to be intractably sealed, and can create either employment or advancement opportunities which might not otherwise have been possible. An obvious example is how a well-written resume and cover letter will many times make all the difference in whether or not you find yourself in front of the interviewer. Our society seems to be losing its affection for the written word, both reading it and composing it, and I have enjoyed the privilege over many years of helping willing individuals refine and sharpen their use of language to express themselves more clearly and accurately. The challenge of teaching is the constant upheaval of technique due to the myriad of personalities and backgrounds which make up the typical classroom. I enjoy listening and, as a creative writer, am perceptive to my surrounds. This, i've found, is a necessary trait in the life of the successful teacher. Having served the past 7 years at a Christian university, I understand the importance of a holistic approach to working with students, and doing whatever is in my power to further the education and awareness of the next generation. Using my undergraduate degree in accounting, I have 10 years work experience as an internal auditor and a computer accounting staff accountant for three CPA firms. I have an additional number of years of work experience as a mid-level manager of computer programmers and web developers. I have most recently been tutoring students working toward GED certification at a local adult education center. My teaching, tutoring, style emphasizes flexibility. While there are specific learning units that should be taught and retained by the student, the flexibility of the teacher, or tutor, will assist the learning experience for the student. Seeing the look and smile on the face of a student that finally grasps a concept, or realizes they have just read on their own for the first time, OH What a Feeling!!! I take each child as their own individual knowing they have their own needs in learning a subject. I teach in several different ways as to ensure the child grasps what they need. I see children today as my future for tomorrow, so helping them and making a difference in their lives will make a difference in mine. I have not forgotten any individual I have helped to this day.
