A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each student is different, and that the best teaching method differs with each student. Some students respond better to being challenged while others will require smaller steps. The goals of the students also vary, some needing only to pass while others need a solid foundation in anticipation of further study. I believe I can tailor instruction to the students' needs.
I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Math classes included Calculus I, II, and III, Differential Equations and Matrices, and Engineering Math. My MS in Engineering Management included several classes in Statistics and Probabilities. I tutored middle school students 12 hours per week for two years at Ramstein Middle School, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

My experience with tutoring ranges from being tutored in middle school at Sylvan Learning Center (due to not being challenged enough in my private school classroom) to tutoring fellow classmates and my friends' younger siblings in a range of subjects during high school and college. I have extensive experience instructing and guiding 12 through 17 year olds from working as a camp counselor for three consecutive summers. The nature of my double major in religion and philosophy from Calvin College dictated that the bulk of my coursework focused on abstract thinking, theoretical reasoning, and argumentative essay writing. The liberal arts collegiate curriculum I pursued included calculus and metaphysics among other challenging and broadening courses.
