A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very patient and driven teacher, which I believe are extremely important characteristics. Easy going is a great way to describe my personality, and students seem to sense that from me. It makes for a comfortable learning environment, but I also love having a lot of structure and planning in my methods so that learning stays on track. The educators that I have admired and looked up to all had these approaches when they had taught me, and I appreciated it. That is what I want to pass on to my students.

I believe if given the right tools, a student can and will succeed in education. If a student feels comfortable in the classroom, I believe that is the first step to the student succeeding. A student isn’t likely to care about work in a class where they feel the teacher hates them, or where the teacher is too easy or difficult. It’s very important for me, as the teacher, to get to know each and every one of my students so I can do the best to make them feel comfortable and important in the classroom. More About This Tutor...

Just telling a child how to do a problem is not effective. I believe a teacher needs to explain the logic and reasoning behind solving certain problems certain ways. Knowing this can help the child discover what works specifically to him/her. If a child learns to reason for his/her self, they gain the ability to be lifetime learners. My hope is, that instead of dreading school they gain confidence in their abilities to figure things out, and therefore find joy in learning. Above all it is important to listen to the kids, stay positive, and never show frustration.
Over the past year I have tutored through The College of Idaho's Chemistry Club. Chemistry, especially the math portions, never came easily to me.
