I recently graduated with BA of Mathematics from Carthage College, one of the top 10 colleges in the Midwest according to U.S. News and World Report. My tutoring experience includes 3 years of college level and 2 years of high school level. I worked at Carthage as math tutor and department service fellow, and was recognized for my work by receiving the “Outstanding Service to the Math Dept.” award for the 2008-2009 academic year. While tutoring college I covered levels from high school Introduction to Math to college Calculus. I have worked mostly in one on one or small group settings, with some experience in tutoring entire classes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have formally tutored with Madison College on two occasions lasting a year. I was also Tutoring throughout my time at Edgewood on a drop in basis with any students that came to the math department and could not reach a professor. I have a BS in Mathematics and doing math at all levels is fun for me.
I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge. I do not wish to be a teacher by profession but I do enjoy helping individuals or small groups with science and mathematics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I constantly compare the perspective I get when I stand in front of a classroom with my own experience as a student. I find it rewarding when I see my students focused and it intrigues me how the dynamic of my lecture influences their performance. I have applied this style while teaching in engineering and in other tutoring in Spanish as a second language that I have done. I enjoy the most teaching to children because I like to experiment with different teaching approaches and examples to catch their attention and interest and make sure they will remember what I taught.

I primarily teach through activities and ideas suited to meet each individual's need. Through the interpersonal contact and motivation I provide, I feel that I help the student to desire to improve their knowledge and perform better. Depending on the student, I can be an enthusiastic or a calm teacher.
