My background is in music. My first formal training started taking piano lessons when I was eight years old. During my junior high and high school years I was in the band. My primary instrument was the trumpet. I also studied vocal music and took some classes in basic music theory. When I was seventeen years old I learned the guitar. I am self taught on that instrument and have played it daily for thirty two years. I started performing professionally in local bands in 1988. After getting a general grasp of the instrument I began teaching privately and have done so intermittently over the years.
