A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring and teaching since my Sophomore year in high school. At that time I was teaching English as a second language to a few foreigners who were visiting my school. Since that time, I've gone on to teach elementary level through high school children/teens in various subjects with the boys and girls clubs of america.
I make sure that when I teach, I prep each lesson for that individual person. No one learning plan can teach every single person, so I hand-tailor things for each student.

I enjoy teaching students how to learn. Learning strategies teach students how to learn proficiently and quickly. Consider the following illustration. A student can take a football and run toward the goal line. He who runs efficiently and smartly (avoiding players whose goal is to tackle him) will cross the goal line. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to see the proverbial light come on and the students eyes widen and they say "OH! I get it!" I've tutored a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. I try to make mathematics fun, like a puzzle to be figured out, and remove the "hard chore" stigma which is generally hard pressed into a students mind by the time I arrive. Getting the student to believe in themselves and believe mathematics isn't a daunting task it's just difficult until you learn the tricks is my goal. I've notice most students find word problems to be most challenging so I purchased a word problem book to draw examples from which seems to help.
Prior to and during my employment with Metropolitan Community College (Between 1998 and 2007) I was a volunteer tutor with non traditional students in the Adult Basic Education/General Education Development ABE/GED program of Metro community college.

Anybody can learn history. By detailing historical concepts in story format, I have the ability to explain eras of history in small concise stories. Once the format of breaking down history has been established, a base of learning is created, and then longer stories can be learned/recited.
I have gained my BA in History, and in the process of doing so I tutored my fellow classmates. Through out my years at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I went out of my way to assist any member of my class with understanding the main ideas of key moments in history. It seems to me that students retain information most successfully when it has been presented so as to be personally relevant, so I attempt to tailor examples to the student's background.
Most of my experience has been as an engineer. I have worked on projects in Europe, Asia, and all over North America. I got involved tutoring high school students while my sons were in high school.
