I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a BA in Spanish Translation and Interpretation and English. During my last two years, my Translation and Interpretation professor selected me to translate and interpret for the Buffalo County Diversion Program. Also during college, I tutored college students through the Center for Academic Success in Spanish and helped the students write and edit their paper (all disciplines). After graduating from college in 2007, I pursued my degree in education, and I have taught 7-12 English and Spanish for the past eight years. My comments on tutoring Spanish : Moderate proficiency in Spanish. This is my 3rd language.

The process is just as important as the product. If a student can come up with the correct answer, but he or she has no idea how or why it is correct or how they got it, I feel like their learning is incomplete. Especially in Math, but also in many other subjects, concepts build upon each other. For this reason, I like to explain not just *how* to get there, but also *why* we got that answer; then students have a firmer foundation for the trickier concepts. I love seeing the lightbulb "go on," when kids finally "get it."
I have been a teacher for 7 years. A Little Bit About Me...

I love the one-on-one part of teaching. Connecting with kiddos, seeing the light bulb turn on in their faces. One of the reasons I am no longer teaching is the special ed paperwork was getting to take up more time than the teaching was. Plus I now have 2 small children at home. I really miss the one-on-one part of teaching. I know there is more than 1 way to teach every concept in math! Showing a kid this, is very important! Also showing them that it's okay to be scared! That all it takes is some patience and someone to guide you though it and math can be conquered!!!
