My teaching style is highly student focused. Instead of providing only textbook reading and writing my classroom focuses on having the students work hands on to create models of the systems they are learning so they can develop their own understanding of the material. I believe that all students should have an interest in the workings of biology especially related to the human body. A priority of mine is to make sure the students are not rushed in their learning. I believe that each student should be encouraged to proceed at a pace that fosters learning and not rote memorization. I believe that once a student can enjoy the process of learning they can begin to internalize the good study habits required for academic success. I use a constructivist teaching method and often use Socratic teaching as a means to have students thinking independently about their work.
