I have a passion for teaching and learning- it runs in the family as my husband is a middle school science and math teacher. Our parents are lifelong edcuators in Wakulla County. Now that I have earned my Master's degree I would like to continue that family tradition.
I believe that while students may forget specifics of what they are learning, they will never forget how teachers make them feel. I also belive that the best teachers are the ones that make themselves less needed the longer they teach specific studdents. I want to empower the students I teach to be able to learn and excell on their own in the future. I hope to make a difference by empowering the students I teach to learn to edcuate themselv ... read more

I believe any child can learn given the opportunity, tools, and a constructive and positive teacher. I would welcome the opportunity to help a child or children reach their full potential. I would love the chance to help them fall in love with reading, showing them that to travel around the world all you need is a book and an imagination. I am patient, kind, and understanding.

In the past two years I have learned that one set teaching style does not work for everyone. I feel it is important to first figure out how the individual learns most effective, and then gear my teaching style around their strengths. Though some methods may change I do believe some main points are very important. A student needs to do the work they are assigned, whether it is from their teacher or me as a tutor. Students who do not do their work are severely hurting themselves. Also, I believe that students will learn best from questions that they develop themselves. If a student can start a session with a few questions about a topic they do not understand, are confused on, or need to know more about it can help to focus the session.

I thoroughly enjoy the transmission of knowledge. What's more is that I find it challenging and fulfilling to figure out what hindrances and expedients exist for individuals in their pursuit to succeed in their studies. As the student is attempts to learn their required material, I attempt to understand the student, which cyclically benefits the student in their studies. I avoid treating all as the same and instead I try to creatively develop the most efficacious routes for each.
I am a person profoundly shaped by my educational experiences and thus believe in the importance of education, particularly in a person’s formative years. Throughout college, I often tutored individuals of all ages in an array of subjects. Elementary, middle, and high school, as well as college too. Upon graduating from UF I taught middle school mathematics for several years. It was certainly a fulfilling ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my bachelor degree in Communications and Creative Writing (double major), which has attributed to my excellent verbal communication skills as well as my writing skills. I've worked in a variety of environments from a newspaper to a radio station, in addition to my course work which emphasized research and reading for comprehension. As the poetry editor of FSU's literary magazine and the assistant editor of FSU's newspaper, I organized others into creative and critical ways of thinking and processing.
My mother is a reading development teacher. She works with Title 1 children every day in her job. Before coming to college, I volunteered over 100 hours working with a Title 1 child on her reading, writing, and math skills. She was in the third grade for the second time that year, and by no means can I take credit for the fact that she went on to pass that year, but I do belie ... read more

I have tutored students of all ages and abilities in math and economics for six years. I have learned that teaching quite often involves more than helping students learn the topics listed on their syllabus. My most challenging and rewarding tutoring position involved working with learning disabled students. I became a mentor to many of these freshmen; teaching them study skills and helping them adjust to college life. Last summer, I taught Health Care Economics to forty University of Florida juniors and seniors. I was responsible for all aspects of the class including planning lectures, creating exams, and grading. I also became a sounding board for students wishing to discuss career choices and graduate school. At the conclusion of the course, I received exceptional student evaluations. I know that the extra time I have spent with my students has helped them become better studen ... read more

After graduating from Marymount Manhattan College with my BA in psychology, I began tutoring mathematics and psychology for their tutoring center. Having great success tutoring students, I was given the opportunity to teach a select group of incoming freshmen who were struggling in their college algebra class. Four out of my 5 students doubled their pre and post placement test scores and had the highest range of scores in the entire program. I have tutored from pre-algebra through pre-calculus and psychology at the college level as well as teaching college algebra and a GRE math prep class.
