For 20 years I worked for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a fifth through 7th Grade classroom teacher. I taught all of the academic subjects in various combinations, sometimes all at once to a self-contained class. The State of Tennessee recognized me as "Highly Qualified" in all subjects, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I served on the district's math council for 5 years, helped direct the district's science fair one year, and worked extensively in the field of arts-based curriculum development. My comments on tutoring Literature : I prep students for the AP English literature exam. All of my students achieved a score of 5 when they received their scores earlier this month.

I am a tutor and test prep coach. I am KY and TN state certified in middle school math. I prepare students for the ACT and Praxis core and content exams, including the Praxis core (math, reading, and writing), Praxis 5018 (elementary education content knowledge), Praxis 5169 (middle school math), and Praxis 5001 (elementary education multiple subjects). A Little Bit About Me...

Writing is thinking. If I can get my students to think, I can get them to write better. We sit down with interesting texts, thought-provoking texts, and figure out what the author was trying to say and how. Then we try to do the same thing ourselves. Part of that is learning the rules of grammar, but I value those only because they let me and my students say what we mean. My classes focus on getting what we mean onto the page, and making that as interesting as possible to the writer and the reader.
After twenty-five years in book and magazine publishing, I decided to do something that mattered, so I went back to school, got a master's degree, and began teaching. Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding.
