A Little Bit About Me...

I make sure that when I teach, I prep each lesson for that individual person. No one learning plan can teach every single person, so I hand-tailor things for each student.
I have been tutoring and teaching since my Sophomore year in high school. At that time I was teaching English as a second language to a few foreigners who were visiting my school. Since that time, I've gone on to teach elementary level through high school children/teens in various subjects with the boys and girls clubs of america.

I have experience working with students who are advanced and seeking supplementary tutoring as well as with students who are having difficulty with a subject. I have tutored mathematics as well as chemistry, biology, physics, and other subjects. I have tutored students from a range of ages and I worked with my first student over four years ago while I was in college.
I try to work with students to find connections between different aspects of the material that we're working on as well as to find connections to other subjects. I find that by relating specific topics to broader perspectives on a subject as well as related subjects, the student can gain a greater appreciation for the coherence and importance of a particular subject area.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students of all ages. I strive to encourage students to develop a love for learning and the ability to learn independently. Each person has a different learning style so I like to allow students to take an active role in designing the method in which they will best learn the material. The best activities require students to take the initiative to meet the demands of the material, but allow them to collaborate with me to solve problems. I taught recitation for Honors Differential Equations, Differential Equations, Calculus 3, Calculus 2 and Introduction to Computer Science as an undergraduate at Georgia Tech and physics and astronomy labs as a graduate student at the University of Tennessee. I was consistently rated highly as a teacher by students.
I see teaching as a dialog between teacher and student and adjust the speed and depth of my teaching to best help the student succeed. Most importantly I want to the student to leave with a greater understanding of the subject than when they entered.

I enjoy teaching students how to learn. Learning strategies teach students how to learn proficiently and quickly. Consider the following illustration. A student can take a football and run toward the goal line. He who runs efficiently and smartly (avoiding players whose goal is to tackle him) will cross the goal line.
