A Little Bit About Me...

I was born in Kiev, former the Soviet Union and at 1969 I was graduated from Kiev Pedagogical University with BA in math. FROM 1970 till 1991 I was a teacher of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus at Kiev High School #4. From 1995 till 1998 I was working as a math tutor at Sylvan and Huntington Learning Centers in Los Angeles. Since 1998 till 2010 I was working as a math teacher at Fulton College Prep School teaching Algebra1, Algebra2, ang Geometry. I am retaring from September 1, 2010 Now I am part time Mathematics instructor at the Pierce College teaching Calculus.
I like my job very much, because teaching math gives me opportunity to percuade each student in his/her talent to solve each life problem. There is a great relationsheep between an abstract mathematics problem and real life situation. I like my students and want to help them.

One Concept At A Time

My approach relies on developing the ability of the student to "store" the fundamentals of the subject (without projecting much of my own style of problem solving techniques). In other words, I equip my students with the tools, while at the same time help them discover their ability to be creative and efficient in using these tools. A Little Bit About Me...

I use a white board when teach people because I find people get less stressed out when working with a problem if there is less scribbles on the paper. I also have a strong belief that it only takes one good example to understand the problem so I give the people I tutor one really good generic example of the topic and tell them to copy it down and refer to that example often and I find that it helps a lot.
I have a variety of degrees and specialties but math is my strong suite. I have tutored friends with great results. I have helped people in math classes ranging from simple math to statistics and even college level math. I love math and English and I also love working with people of all ages and teaching them to love math as well. I enjoy class discussion and participation when I am teaching in classroom. I would recommend my students to review the course ahead of time. Once I explain the subject, it will clarify any ambiguity. The other strategy that I use is to ask the students to pretend that they are the teacher and have them explain it back to me.
