In my experience as a student, I have often questioned the teaching methods of many teachers and professors. I sometimes realize more effective ways things could be explained, once I understand it. I am patient and sympathetic with those who misunderstand a concept. I enjoy the challenge of applying my ability to explain a topic from multiple angles of comprehension.
I was raised on a farm in Iowa and attended school there until I was 13. In Zephyrhills, Fl, I was awarded valedictorian status for the class of '09. I have been tutoring since I started college so I have over 5 years of experience in tutoring math classes and 1 year experience in physics. I have worked in a tutoring center for about 2 and half years and learned a lot. Most experience comes from tutoring in the center and private tutoring consolidated my experiences.
I believe the goal of the tutor is to teach the student through real-world applications and to make the student self sufficient.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY Let me start by saying that in my family we have a lot of teachers, so it runs in my blood?. I teach Economics and Business classes. I have been teaching for the past 13 years so I have plenty of experience. I meet 40 new students a month. I taught for several universities online and on campus. Economics, my favorite course to teach is viewed by many as boring; there are right and wrong ways to approach questions, and finite answers to many questions. Of course, it is far more than that as economics should be viewed as a complex language with many shades of gray that necessitate complex judgment calls. I try to get beyond the procedures. My approach: A positive atmosphere. Students are called upon to discuss questions, but mistakes are treated as opportunities to explore misconceptions, not as a reflection of a student's abilities. A window on the world. ... read more

I have been tutoring on and off through the years, and recently I was looking for a teaching job in Atlanta and became certified to teach high school mathematics in the state of Georgia. I am a very patient person and that is reflected in the way I teach. When I tutor in an individual basis I allow the student to do most of the writing that way the brain needs to process what it hears in order to write it down. I enjoy teaching Math and Science because I find them easy to learn. I find it very satisfying when I tutor someone and at the end I can tell that they have learned something, I find this to be one of the things I do best. My friends and family always praise me on the way I teach things.
I graduated from the University of Florida with a BS in Civil Engineering. During my years in College I worked as a tutor in the Math Lab, initially helping with math and science and later helping students with Spanish as well. At the Math lab I was a ‘floor tutor’ I had to walk around the lab and help students on as needed basis. I also had one-hour meetings with students. ... read more

After sub teaching the last couple of years I have found most kids want to learn but need a lot of "structure". If their personal "structure" isn't there it is difficult for them. This is also true for kids who are advanced. I believe in no cell phones, electronic devices, and trying to figure out what each child strengths and weaknesses are and then use those strengths to help them learn. I am not against having background music playing during homework time because it doesn't bother other children. It is a problem however in the classroom.

I do believe that all children have the ability to learn the subjects however not all children are in the right mind to do so. My goal is to show in real world, understandable terms the subjects we will work on. I believe that if a child is explained the rules in terms and words he/she understands, then he/she will grasp the material and carry it with them into the future rather than trying to cram for an exam with no retention.
I graduated from UNF in 1993 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in the field of Management. The degree required classes in Accounting, Finance, Algebra and Economics. Mathematics has risen to be one of my preferred subjects, tutoring this subject for a year to date.

As a current graduate student I've learned to not only be a student but also a teacher, in assisting my peers and family in subjects beyond their understanding. I've earned my bachelors in science in Chemistry, and I am currently working on my Masters Degree In Aeronautical Science with A focus in Air traffic Management and operations.
I feel like the best way to teach a subject is to break it down to the basics and build your way up, I feel you cant have a full understanding of something if you cant teach it yourself. Im a positive motivator and I believe that with enough patience and repetition any student will be able to understand anything.

I believe that an instructor’s primary role is to create an environment that encourages a real desire to learn by presenting the subject matter in a way that is interesting to the student and by striving to make it make it relevant to their lives. It is my role as an instructor to take abstract concepts and breathe life into them and make them real to the student. I think that it is important to understand and be constantly aware that different people learn in different ways. Because of this, I feel that it is important that an instructor uses a wide range of teaching methods in order to give each student the best opportunity to learn and understand the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to break things down to the component level in order to show the inner workings and the why of things for a more complete understanding. However, not all students are interested nor need to know the inner workings of things to succeed so I adjust my style to suit the student's needs. I do enjoy that "Aha!" moment when I've been able to break through a student's barrier and help them see the how and the why of something. It makes my day when that happens. I often hear students tell me; "I wish they would have taught me that in school!". I'm not sure if everything needed to succeed in school is being taught in school but I'm glad to be able to help someone in accomplishing their goals.

Teaching is fundamental just like learning is. It gives me great joy to get someone out of their comfort zone when it comes to learning something new. Showing examples in real life situations are very helpful when trying to get a student to understand something that they are struggling with. Every studen. Is willing to learn, and that when the teacher shows up!
I have always had a passion to learn and help others learn as well. I enjoy showing someone an easier way to do something and an easier way to learn. I learned also that every person learns in a different way. It helps when those are identified because it helps the student achieve on there on level. In high school and college as well, I took advanced courses in math, science, and a little in history and English. I tutored many students in math, being that this is a subject that I am very good at.
