I spent nine semester at FMCC in the TRiO Student Support Services program. I began as a part time tutor and after one semester the program director saw it prudent to keep me on. During my time with the program I helped to establish several tutoring programs, one at FM and another at Amsterdam High School for the Upward Bound Grant funded program. In my spare time I do private in home tutoring for students seeking to improve their grades and become adept at taking standardized tests. Currently I am providing mathematics tutoring for the EOP program at Cobleskill Community College. Several nights a week I assist several EOP students at a time in courses like Basic Math, Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, and Pre-Calculus.

For instance, if a student has trouble focusing on his/her work, I try to push them for short periods of intense study, and then reward them with a break. Though applicable to any subject, for science and math I adhere to the inquiry method. I'm believe in the teacher finding something interesting in what is being taught, asking leading questions with which the students answer, and having the students learn through their answers. Lecturing is my least favorite method, and I believe the least effective.
