Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.
After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. Math is one of my top subjects!

Hands on with many examples. I feel students learn best through examples.
I've had a passion for math ever since I was little, which led me to pursue a degree in Actuarial Science. I've taken pretty much every math class that I can think of. From Pre-Algebra to Calculus III, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Differential and Partial Differential Equations, etc. A professor of mine once said that we tend to not like what we can't understand, and there is huge truth behind his quote. I started teaching chemistry in 1964. During my child-raising years, I did a lot of substitute teaching in various subjects, and worked at part-time and temporary classroom teaching and tutoring. My longest position was at University of Massachusetts, Lowell campus, (1993 through 2004, before moving to Florida), teaching 3 different levels of Freshman Chemistry.
