Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.

My comments on tutoring Desktop Publishing : I have worked with publishing programs since 1990 with large publishing companies.

I work normally in groups to mentor staff/clients or students to understand the importance of great design through typography and quality design using basic programs like pagemaker through to InDesign. Individual one-on-one is preferable as I can dedicate my time to bring out the creative expressions. Professional design can make the difference by setting you apart from the competition. Students generally perform better with hands-on practice. I provide multiple opportunities for hands-on and guided practice as time permits. Associate new concepts to familiar ones. Our memories are largely associative in nature. Therefore, providing connections from new concepts back to well established ones increases our retention and recall.
