I'm currently a Junior at Wichita State University. I will be graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics in May of 2014. I passed Algebra I and II with A's, Geometry and Trigonometry with an A, Pre-Calculus with 105% and Calculus with 114%. Although I never actually taught a class, I was able to learn how to adapt to the individual needs of a student. Some learn visually, others with games, practice, hands on... and the list continues. I find starting out with the basics and working up to the harder subjects is important. So, with the assignment given I also ask other questions of the student to see if they understand the more basic concepts of the problem as well as answer the question. I find this helps them understand the process more completely and the student ends up giving more complete answers on assignments and exams. At the end of each session I hope the person I am helping better understands the material and can gain a little confidence about the subject.

I received my bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I then moved to the University of Kansas where I completed a masters in Biochemistry and Biophysics. During this time I was a graduate teaching assistant for two years. I taught science labs including biochemistry I lab (2 semesters), biochemistry II lab (1 semester), and physiology lab (2 semesters). I also assisted in teaching biochemistry lecture. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Kansas State, I was tasked not only with teaching mathematics in a classroom setting, but also in a more personal setting. Part of my duties included being available to briefly tutor students (ranging from basic math through Introductory Differential Equations) one on one in the Math Help Room.
Let's face it; most students do not want to be in a math class.
