I feel that understanding the 'why' leads people to more easily grasp larger concepts and makes mistakes easier to recognize. After that practice is absolutely necessary: repetition IS the mother of learning. For children all this has to be presented in an accessible way. I try to contextualize problems in math and science in order to make them easier for children to grasp.
