I am from South Korea and have been studying in America for 4 years. During 4 years, I was struggling to learn English and studying hard to follow my classes. As a result, I learned the efficient way of studying English(useful for people who are from other countries) and maintained A- grade during my high school. I taught Korean students who needed English help and American students who needed math help(especially for ACT math). I got 29 ACT overall score and 33 ACT math and 28 English ACT. Studying at St. Olaf College, I explored the joy of teaching. As a native Korean speaker, I taught American friends who are interested in Korean culture and Korean. During my undergraduate career, there were multiple influences that contributed to my passion for teaching. First, I tutored college students from Asia who were exchange students. This gave me the opportunity to apply what we learned in the classroom, and adapt to a culture that learns differently than Americans. Second, I tutored a high schooler in Spanish. I used this as a tool to see how a person can still learn when they are not interested in the subject. Third, I taught English last summer in Mexico. I was given a group of high school students, a book of lessons, and hardly any supplies. Resources were slim, but my creativity grew.
