Laid back, but encouraging.If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature.
My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. Now that I am an adult, I feel that I have the experience to help children understand and find it easier to learn English and grammer, sentence writing, composition writing, essays, etc.

My preferred teaching style is discussion with leadership. When the student can relate to the information through own experience or peer experience the information is better absorbed. In a classroom situation a certain amount of lecture is also needed to stimulate the conversation and present the subject materials. As a tutor it would be more a discussion and personal discovery that isn't as easy with a large class.
