While pursuing my Ph.D. in chemistry, I not only taught required general chemistry labs and lectures at the university I attended, I also tutored both college and high school students in various fields of math and science. I have over 7 years of tutoring experience at all levels of biology, chemistry, physics, and math. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, I tutor groups of 2-5 students. Teaching lectures of 60+ students at both SDSU and UCSD has prepared me to effectively deliver material to groups. By holding office hours, I was able to better interact with students individually, to better aid them in understanding the material. I have always picked things up quickly, more quickly than my peers. My peers have often come to me to ask for my help in those areas. I also see how to apply what I have learned to original problems because I see connections and hold a deeper understanding of the material. My double major in Chemistry and Biochemistry with a mino in Mathematics was full of its fair share of difficult material, and I was almost always able to help my peers, as well as younger students, through their problems.
I can usually find a way to relate the material that the student is struggling with to something else that they understand. When they can make connections to more familiar things, then they can think themselves through problems more effectively. I graduated with a B.S. degree in Genetics from Iowa State University, with a minor in statistics, enabling me to gain an in depth understanding of science and mathematics. I was a very driven student, every semester I excelled in a full 18 credit hours, while working in a genetics research lab and being actively involved in many clubs, as well as collegiate athletics tutoring. After the completion of my Bachelor's degree, I accepted a research position at a National Research Institute.
