As a recent college graduate I have extensive knowledge in the physical and biological sciences, including chemistry, geology, soil science, physics, botany. I have strong writing and reading skills, as well as personal interest in history and social science. This past summer I was an intern with the City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department in which I was responsible for planning and running environmental education summer camps for kids ages six to twelve. More teaching experience includes working in an after school homework club for elementary students of all grades, as well as a classroom aid in a second grade class and a kindergarden class. I also temporarily coached soccer to local youth.

I have an unparalleled amount of patience.

The roles of the teacher and student are one in the same. I go into teaching knowing that I am not the end all shepherd of information but I am going to give all I can at being as clear, concise, informative, and objective.
My first teaching experience was in high school teaching at after school programs about basic economic principles that may apply to kids. That was my first time understanding that I have potential to assist others in grasping topics. In my college career, I found myself teaching people everything from music to proper uses of tense/grammar. It was there that i learned that you really only learn a small fraction of what you need to help you in life in the classroom. The rest must be learned on your own or with some one-on-one counseling. I know that any information can possibly be simplified and made clearer with a little time and attention to towards looking at t ... read more

My original direction was networking until I realized the rewards of spending time with students in the classroom. Having raised two children, I volunteered several hundred hours at my son's school and found that I desired to be part the classroom experience. Changing my course of study to Elementary Education, I had taken coursework relevant to K-12 studies, assessments, management and curriculum.
I feel it is my responsibility as a teacher to help the student realize their potential by engaging my student in the learning process. It is my belief that every student has the potential to learn their material. A major benefit from my experience as an education major is learning that students have different learning styles as well as different intelligences in their acquisition of their life's experiences. It is my responsibility to see that a student feels comfortable and safe ... read more

I am a current grad student at Liberty University. I am working on my Masters degree in Education. I am looking for a job that I can gain teaching exposure. I am great with people and love kids. I have the ability to come up with alternative ideas and ways to approach difficult situations.
I love working with children. I believe that all children are a gift and that they have the ability to learn. It is our job to teach them. We need to find ways to teach them. Every child needs to be treated accordingly to their needs.

I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently.
I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have graduated, I still see myself as a student still learning. I take that with me when I teach fellow students. I try to make it an experience where we are all learning something together. This prevents me from just telling someone what to learn, instead it shows someone how to learn. During my years in high school I struggled. At one point my GPA fell below a 2.0. I learned how to bounce back by improving study habits and hard work and ended up graduating college with biology degree with a 4.0 GPA. I share this because I can relate to the struggles of school and I have the tools to help overcome that struggle. I want to share these tools with others. Anyone can be successful in school and I am an example of that.
I am a recent graduate with straight A’s from Lewis-Clark State College with a major in Biology. I took many classes in math to receive my degree. ... read more

Unfortunately, I am not able to document any particular periods of time as a tutor or teacher; however, with my experience in the medical imaging field, and with a strong background in physics & math, I believe I poscess a keen apptitude for technical subjects.
I believe I have an uncanny ability to break down & analyize any math problem to its simplist components, re-word it into an understandable form, and deliver several different solution options in order for the student to confidently answer - even when it presents itself in different ways.

I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a mathematics major from Northern State University at Aberdeen, South Dakota. Being a continual learner, I also completed a broadfield science endorsement in Montana. Twelve years teaching experience has given me extensive opportunities teaching secondary mathematics and science to various cultures in Alaska, Montana, and South Dakota. As a culturally sensitive teacher, I have dealt with many learning styles in a patient manner. As a graduate instructor at Eastern Washington University at Cheney, Washington, I have also taught college level algebra.
To listen is to learn; this goes hand-in-hand with asking questions. In order to learn, one has to process information at his own pace. Questions are sometimes more important than answers. I also believe a seed can be planted along the way. In other words, as one procee ... read more

As "stay at home" mom of 6, I have used my two Bachelors' degrees for the education of my own children. I've taught them essential reading and writing skills, study habits, organization skills, science projects, practical application of principles, and a love of learning. I have also home schooled my children. I teach violin and piano out of the home and have spent many hours volunteering in the public schools with ESL and teaching early morning Spanish courses. I enjoy working with children and have taught children ages 4-12 in church for many years.
I love to experience the thrill of success as a child begins to understand. I enjoy seeing their confusion transform into understanding. I believe children have brilliant minds that just need to be directed or focused in a way that incorporates their frame of reference. I have seen how children become excited with learning as th ... read more

I firmly believe that a good education must be adaptable, flexible, and incorporate a variety of learning styles if it is to be of maximum benefit to students. When teaching, I speak with my students about the kinds of activities they feel assist them most in retaining information as well as observing their learning style independently. I do my best to include activities that incorporate visual, kinesthetic, and oral learners. School isn’t always fun and interesting; it is called “work” for a reason. However, if I can’t make it fun I can at least make it engaging and that is what I strive for. Every student can achieve if they are given the right tools, support network, and encouragement to do so.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught as a program director, a school volunteer, and a community college instructor. While the majority of my experience has been with high school students, I have also worked with elementary and middle school students, college undergraduates and medical students. I have also provided continuing education for high school and middle school science teachers.
My approach to tutoring in most cases is to help students find answers themselves through questioning and examples rather than by giving direct instruction, which I reserve for students who are struggling with course content rather than understanding. I believe that all students have the capacity to learn and that many undermine themselves by not having faith in their own abilities. The experience of mastering content and understanding can help a student not only with the subject matter at hand, but also with their futu ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I started teaching English-Language Arts & U.S. History in central California, where I taught 8th graders for two years. Then I moved to South Korea, where I taught ESL for one year. After that amazing experience, I moved to South Lake Tahoe and taught English to 7th & 8th graders. While teaching, I also tutored after-school programs for kids that ranged from 2nd grade to high school. I have tutored in the subjects of reading, writing, life science, elem. and middle school math, and Spanish. Currently, I am tutoring two sets of kids in elementary subjects, with an emphasis on reading comprehension, writing essays, building vocabulary, and working on math skills. I am also teaching the students Spanish.
Teaching is my passion and I can't imagine doing anything else. I love my students and they love me because I provide hands-on, kinesthetic, and rememorable lessons. My patience and ... read more

When I was a kid I used to ask questions about things. My questions were usually of the natural sciences bent. I was eight. As an adult, knowing I was going to have a daughter, I discovered that I needed to be respected in the world for my knowledge so I could have a career that could support my daughter. I became a great student. After a while I found that it wasn’t just chemistry that I loved. It was TEACHING chemistry that I loved. It was sharing the knowledge and sharing the discovery. I spent fifteen years going to community college and Eastern Washington University. I earned my Associates in chemistry and my BAE in chemistry. I have tutored in chemistry, math and Turkish language.

A Little Bit About Me...

My last class was a self-contained 6th grade, with a 34% ELL and 14% special education population. My class average reading level rose from 4.6 to 7.1. Of all the students in the school who surpassed the required State testing and higher District goals in both reading and math, 75% came from my class, as did the winners of the school's essay contest, spelling bee and geography competition. My first career was in medicine where I gave direct care, taught military/civilian classes and participated extensively in research, gaining a deep understanding of science biology and chemistry and human A&P.
I integrate as many subjects as possible and seek to provide the missing schema, background experience and knowledge, that is critical to learning to a true state of understanding and mastery. Every subject is interesting to a child who can understand it and apply it. Through a ... read more
