Computer Programming is one of my top subjects! I have been Computer Programming for 4+ years now and I have participated in many online projects from creating my own games to creating Artificial Intelligence. While I mainly teach Java, I can teach C++, SQL, PHP, and theory of Computer Science. I have tutored 40+ programmers on various technologies, languages, and theories of computer science.

I love getting students interested in subjects before I start teaching them. There's no point in walking through a tunnel if you never see the light at the end of it. This can be done in many different ways such as comparing it to real life or showing what can be done with the knowledge acquired. The best way for students to start learning is to compare it to things they already know. For example, I explain a "Class", which is a term in the computer language Java, to an object in real life and all the different "methods", another computer science term, with all the different things that that object can do.

My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : I'm best with MATLAB, but this is comparable to C/C++. I'm familiar with programming logic.

In my experience as a student, I have often questioned the teaching methods of many teachers and professors. I sometimes realize more effective ways things could be explained, once I understand it. I am patient and sympathetic with those who misunderstand a concept. I enjoy the challenge of applying my ability to explain a topic from multiple angles of comprehension.

I teach by example, by first modeling my expectations or skill. Then letting the students model the skill with me. Then, I allow the students time to practice the skill. I believe the proper term is scaffolding. I am a direct teacher there is no misunderstanding in the messages or instruction that I convey. I began tutoring math for Stetson University which ranged from Algebra 1 to Calculus 2. I then began tutoring privately and I have tutored lower level math and advanced statistics. I have tutored a student who was failing calculus in class but then they earned the highest possible grade on the standardized test. I also have a degree in mathematics.
My teaching style involves a lot of examples and having the student answer the questions on the board. I am able to come up with examples off the top of my head and have the student work through the problem to prevent "dumb" mistakes (such as forgetting a minus sign). I am very patient and allow my students as much time as possible and encourage them to ask whenever they are stuck.
