I love math. I find it fun, challenging, and very interesting. When I tutor students, I try to portray my excitement for the subject so they see that it is not intimidating and so they are more willing to work to solve a problem. My hight school math teacher encouraged me by her passion and I have taken that into how I tutor and help others. As a mathematics major, I worked in the math lab all four years of my college experience. I would tutor others with their math and help students study for exams. I have recently graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with my BS in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. I try my best to make the student figure things out on their own, by giving simple guiding questions or comments. I do not like to simply do the problems for them, as I find most people do not learn well this way. I am patient and empathetic, and I understand what it is like to approach a problem from the position of a student who is confused or unsure. I try to give them the tools to understand basic problem solving and critical thinking. I went to school at EMU with the intention of getting a doctorate in Physics, to teach at the college level. I ended up getting a job in IT at the University, and found I enjoy this just as much. While a student, I volunteer tutored for the Society of Physics Students, and I tutor all the student employees I have when they are taking physics classes.
