These are the reasons that I belong to TESOL and the International Reading Association. In addition to belonging to these organizations, I have continued to pursue new knowledge by attending graduate classes at the University of Kansas. After I received my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1994, I continued my studies and received both my reading specialist and ESL endorsements. I have been tutoring for many years with different kinds of children. To begin with, I tutored my younger sister starting when she was about seven years old to age twelve or thirteen. In high school, I also volunteered for an after-school program for Hispanic children ages seven-twelve where I helped them with their homework in various subjects. In addition, I spent about four months tutoring a severely autistic child, teaching him different communication skills and helping him to form patterns. As I became older I transferred that youthful facility towards my college coursework.
