I'm a student at Augustana College whose academic record has ranged from public school to home schooling to community college and and even private education. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree. Throughout those years I've encountered many special needs students and many bright students, tutoring in subjects ranging from English, Math, Social Studies, to Computer Science. I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.

My experience as a teacher has been gained through my work at Easter Seals, a pediatric physical therapy center, for which I have taught many children skills in life, communicating, and other various skills. I believe that a good teacher student relationship is imperative. Also I think that learning is best done in a stress free environment. I strive to provide that environment for the children I assist. It is also my belief that with a little hard work, some encouragement, and lots of attention a difference can be made in someones life. I taught one semester of College Algebra at Illinois State University. I was responsible for 2 sections of lab while I completed graduate credits for a Master's in Mathematics. My B.S. in actuarial science (math) was attained from Bradley University. Also, I've been a youth minister at the local church for a year and half now and have formed a large group consisting of junior high and high school students. I love to put myself in the students' shoes. I have the ability to relate to the students on an individual level and they respect me. I always hope that no one is left behind just because they are afraid to ask questions. I believe in having fun while learning and in being honest with your students.

I truly enjoy giving back to the future.
