Repetitive reading that helps recognition and pronunciation, sounding out and following along with single reading. getting the group excited about the material we use by offering props. Encouraging group participation and support. And of course stickers and promotion. My idea is to have 5 to 10 children of close to the same age reading and practicing together, asking questions about the subject and imaging themselves in the stories they are reading. I like to have a prop from the stories and offer it to the reader as the others track and read along.
I have 4 years of elementary library aide experience, a small one on one group to help them to excel in reading, pinpointing areas of weakness and strengths, helping young readers succeed in comprehensive reading. I worked closely with our reading experts to test and evaluate the readers to mainstream them back into the classrooms of re ... read more

My greatest strength lies with my patience with children and flexibility to see what style of learning enables the child to best master the subject. I desire to lead children in finding the answer which will not only teach them the subject they are learning, but will enable them to reason and find the answers in other classes as well. It is simple to teach a child to memorize but to teach a child to reason will enable him to learn any subject at any age.
During my time in college, I switched to become an educator as I discovered a passion to see the lives of children transformed. During my process of gaining my BS in Physical Education, I worked with many after school programs and taught both elementary and high school during my student teaching. It seems to me that everyone can learn, in different ways and at different times. My approach is to have several options of which approach will be successful. Being a 1:1 teacher allows me the freedom and time to work with a student on a concept in a number of ways until the cognition sets in for him. Being enthusiastic and excited about the learning experience is contagious. I always think about the teachers who were indifferent compared to the ones who were animated. I am definitely animated, excited, and enthusiastic. I believe in combining visual, tactile, and aural whenever possible.
My experience in the teaching field has been primarily as a substitute on a daily basis. I have some long-term sub assignments in my resume as well. For the past 7 years I have limited my assignments to "Home/Hospital". I meet 5 hours per week with each student to provide complete instruction ... read more

I have been working with students since I was in Middle School myself. I went to college to become a special education teacher and am currently working as a resource specialist. I work with students who have learning disabilities, are at risk, have emotional disturbances, autism, or just need a helping hand. I have also taught in general education classrooms.
I believe every child is capable of matching and exceeding our highest expectations. Every child learns differently and that is my approach. I don't believe in cookie cutter education. I design programs around students interests, needs, and abilities. I believe that positive feedback and reinforcement get better results than negativity, and it is my job to help your child be successful. It is my job to help your child buy into their own education and realize how great it is to be a lifelong learner.
