I have been studying education since my high school graduation in hopes of one day being the choir director at my high school.At the moment I am a student at UTEP studying bilingual elementary education and plan to receive a masters in music education after receiving my bachelors degree. I am currently a subsitute teacher and am hoping to continue helping students with their studies in the summer and weekends. In my schooland work experience I have worked with children of all grade levels and all subjects.
I am firm but like to use students life experiences and hobbies to teach them subjects. Younger students I like to teach through play due to the fact that I am a firm believer that children learn through play.

A Little Bit About Me...

The subjects I have taught are Health, Texas History, Basic Science, American History, Spanish 1-3, World Geography, Biology, Language Arts including writing, spelling and grammar. Even though these subject are outside of my major, I took the time to prepare. We also know that teaching a subject helps us learn it better. I have at least three years experience teaching each of the named subjects or more. I have coached Volleyball, Basketball, Track successfully and would be willing to personally coach a budding athlete. My best experiences have been with ages 12 - 14.
Each child is different. On a one on one setting, it would be advantageous to allow the student some freedom so that their learning style leads to maximum learning. I have an MA in history as well as a BA in antropology from New Mexico State University and graduated with honors. I recently finished up the school year tutoring students in grades first through fourth. While teaching at a charter schhool, I also taught and tutored third grade students in reading and math. I have experience in teaching American History to incoming freshmen at the local community college here in El Paso, TX.
I thoroughly enjoy tutoring children on a one-to-one basis because I beleive that students progress more if they get individual attention. I get to see the students' faces light up when they "get it" and knowing that I have made some impact in their lives is very rewarding.
