A Little Bit About Me...

Experience: My teaching experiences are diverse! I am a Certified MN Teacher in Health and Physical Education, but have been involved in various other content areas. I am enthusiastic about learning and willing to assist students with their learning goals! My experiences began at the Middle School level, teaching 8th grade Health. Next, I taught 6-8 grade Physical Education. Then I substitute taught in nearly every subject, grades 4-12. This past summer I taught a Wellness and Recreation class for a chemical dependency treatment program. For the last year, I have taught night school at an Alternative High School in Health and PE. I began as a teacher's assistant in 1994 for 4 years before returning to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Ed. I obtained endorsements in high school math and reading. My teaching experience began at a school for girls who are court ordered to residential treatment for behaviors. Unfortunately, after over 8 years in this position, I was laid off. Since then I have been employed by Sylvan Learning Center, a tutoring facility where we work with student of various ages and abilities. We assist these students with reading, math (both beginning to high school levels), study skills and test prep. I have taught various levels of math - elementary through some college - reading, speech, computer applications, science, history, and English.

I believe a successful instructor is the most important part of teaching; one who is knowledgeable, wise, and be able to effectively communicate the knowledge to the students. I believe this can be achieved primarily by knowing the entirety of the subject taught and being able to connect with the students on an individual basis. The most effective instructors in my experience especially in higher education were effective at answering in dept questions on the spot and being able to connect with students with the course material rather than presenting facts or knowledge.
