My comments on tutoring Life Science : I hold a Ph.D in a Life Science discipline.

I believe that stimulating conversation and allowing people to arrive at answers on their own and through experience is the best way to form lasting connections.
I took a variety of Biology classes and Labs at WPI mostly focused on Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics. I recently finished my PH.D. where I studied control of viral gene expression. This work encompassed a variety of biological disciplines including virology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics, all of which I am quite experienced in. I also have experience teaching in a seminar format as well as in small groups. As a senior graduate student I was responsible for leading discussions prior to invited speaker seminars.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent, I teach in some way everyday. I have learned patience and the importance of repetition and positive feedback. I would love to teach other children, or high school students, about the Earth and its complicated, but awe inspiring processes. Sometimes it just takes one on one attention for a child to gain understanding and confidence in a subject.
My passion for Earth Science has lead me to pursue a Master's degree with the hopes of a career change in my future. My teaching style is relaxed, but focused. I believe all children can be natural learners, especially when they find something that interests them. Patience is the key with children. Every child has their own pace and learning style. Some are very visual learners while others need to be able to be more hands-on. It is very rewarding helping someone succeed.

My teaching style is hands on I think most children learn better when they can see it for themselves and how things work. For younger children I try to make up a song and sign it for them and they seem to learn better when u sign it.
