Tutoring my fellow classmates was an integral part of my college experience. At Yuba College, I tutored math and chemistry in the College Success Center for two school years. I was in demand, as even fellow tutors would seek my help. I was also requested by my physics professor to tutor physics in the Hard Math Cafe on campus. While at UCI, where I graduated Cum Laude with a mathematics degree, I would often help fellow students, even during the professor's office hours when the professor was busy with another student. I currently work for Paradise Oaks Youth Services as a residential counselor, specifically on the 7 to 3 shift, tutoring the kids to help them complete their individual school program. At Paradise Oaks Youth services I work with emotionally disturbed teenage boys, but as a substitute teacher, I worked K12 and special education. For the past 10 years, I have worked in my community, helping to better the lives of children. At age 15, I began mentoring young girls and volunteering for a non-profit organization, counseling developmentally delayed children and at-risk youth. I later went on to become a Behavioral Therapist, educating children with autism. My love for children (and passion for education) was the determining factor in the course of my college career.
