A Little Bit About Me...

For the past 10 years, I have worked in my community, helping to better the lives of children. At age 15, I began mentoring young girls and volunteering for a non-profit organization, counseling developmentally delayed children and at-risk youth. I later went on to become a Behavioral Therapist, educating children with autism. My love for children (and passion for education) was the determining factor in the course of my college career. I attained a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Utah in 2008 (graduating with a cumulative GPA of 3.8). I started tutoring classmates in seventh grade and tutored friends in college in Trigonometry. I have earned two BS degrees in Landscape Architecture and Computer Science with a minor in Math. this diverse education allows me to tutor in Math and Science as well as design and art. I have tutored part-time since 2004, mostly in high school Math, but have also assisted in Chemistry, CBEST, SAT, and GRE prep. I have also developed coursework and taught at UCSC in the classroom setting, and trained employees.
My first visit is just an assessment of where the student began to get lost regardless of the age or level. As the school I taught at was private, the students were very competitive. I found my lectures and class activities reached 90% of the students. The remaining 10% were the students I especially loved to instruct. These students had difficulty learning the subject in a traditional fashion, so I was forced to explain the subject from a different angle.
