Online Music Lessons and Elementary Test Prep/Homework Help

I am currently a general music teacher at Samsula Academy, an elementary school in New Smyrna Beach, FL. I teach general music classes to students in grades K-5, as well as chorus and band. I received my Bachelor's degree from Marywood University in Scranton, PA and began my Master's studies at University of Central Florida. I currently aspire to study Irish traditional music in Ireland in the near future, and would continue to offer online tutoring services during those studies. At Samsula Academy, I offer private music lessons. I have mostly taught piano, but I also have taught trumpet, trombone, drums, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and violin. As a part of my undergraduate studies, I took methods courses in all band and orchestra instruments, so I am trained to teach most anything. I also have experience assisting in the elementary classrooms in reading, writing, and math, and preparing ... read more

After graduating with a degree in Elementary Education in 2001, I taught 2nd grade for one year. As a first year teacher, I completed the Teacher Induction Program, also known as the TIP Program. Additionally, I took and passed the following state exams: Professional Ed, Elementary Ed, and Middle Grades Mathematics. A desire to to attain specific math certification arose when I relocated to a different county and accepted a position teaching middle school math. I enjoyed this position very much, but resigned upon the birth of my son. Now, I believe a position utilizing my teaching experience with flexible, afternoon hours would be an ideal fit for me.
I am a teacher who realizes all students can improve if they receive motivation and instruction appropriate to their specific circumstance. I believe it is important to encourage individuality, creativity, critical thinking, and ... read more

In May 2009, I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a BA in Elementary Education. I had a wonderful experience in college where I gained a philosophy of becoming a lifelong learner, and I believe that everyone should be lifelong learners. I had a very rewarding experience in tutoring through the wonderful Big Brother / Big Sister organization, where I tutored elementary students. I also interned in a third grade and kindergarten classroom where I learned how to meet the needs of each individual student through the use of many strategies.
Since third grade I have always wanted to become a teacher. My third grade teacher inspired me to work hard and to never give up. I want to become that same inspiration in the lives of children. I believe that all children should be given an opportunity to learn. Children learn in many different ways. From my college experience ... read more

My teaching style is more of a demonstrator. This means that I give an emphasis on demonstrating and modeling strategies. Then as a coach/guide I help students develop and apply the skills and knowledge necessary for understanding concepts. I generally show my students how to properly do a task or work through a problem, then I'll help them master the task or problem. Repetition is an essential part of learning each task. It is important that my students can independently solve similar problems by using and adapting demonstrated methods.
As a Stetson University graduate, I have always thrived for a higher level of excellence. I have earned my Bachelor degree in elementary education and have a minor in music. I have been a Seminole county teacher for 16 years. My certification is grades 1-6, although I have worked with tutoring children of all ages and ability levels. It has a ... read more

I like to perform the tasks in front of the student and explain everything, step by step, as well as give information on why I'm doing that step. Then, if the student understands and feels comforatable performing the task, I'll let them try it with me, being there to help out as needed. I like students to be very hands on when it comes to learning. Once they feel comfortable performing their task in front of me, they can usually be on their own after that. I also encourage students to ask as many questions as possible, and there are no dumb questions.

I am a firm believer that every person has the right to an education. I am a very patient, laid back educator. My teaching philosophy is one of challenge and support. I believe that when a student is challenged academically, they will succeed if there is adequate support provided. I prefer to focus on a student’s learning strengths. By helping students realize what they do well, one can then apply those skills to subjects that the student finds challenging. Every person has the ability to learn anything that they put their mind too. I will make every effort to help students realize their true academic potential.
As a first generation college student, I was encouraged by my parents to do succeed in school. They knew that for me to be able to attend college I would have to well in school. While I was pursuing my BA in Art History and Archaeology, I found that I had a knack for encou ... read more

I have always been involved in the teaching industry. Weather that is after school care or tutoring and mentoring. I was an Americorps Volunteer from 2000-2001 working within education. I was an in class tutor for kindergarden, 3rd and 5th grades. I also taught at Apopka Middle and drop out prevention at Apopka High School. I facilitated a boys group every Tuesday night and a youth group every Wednesday night. I did summer camps and tutoring after school as well.
My teaching style is that we do not move on until you (the student) "get it". If that is an hour or two, that's fine, or a week or two, that is fine as well. I need the student to know the material in order to move on.

I really enjoy working with kids and helping them succeed. I am a firm believer that every child has the potential to be a great student. My teaching style is very interactive. I believe in "Yes, You Can!", instead of "No, You Can't." Positive reinforcement and an emphasis upon disciplinary "best practices" can fertilize the seeds of personal and academic growth. In particular, I believe in focusing upon HOW a student learns. For instance, if a student learns visually, I like to tailor learning strategies toward that student's strength.
My educational background is stellar. The most important tool that I have acquired during all of those years, however, is NOT memorization, NOT spelling or grammar - it's the ability to THINK. Looking at the "Big Picture" enables me to see beyond the immediate problem, to find long-term, sustainable solutions. This skill extends across disciplines--whether they be English, mathematics, history or Spanish.

Work well with accomidating others in the different learning styles. Having a hard time explaining to teachers and professors about their teaching approach made me aware of the situation. I love to teach others how to long for self motivation. I believe that anyone can learn as much as they would like if they think positive and continue to focus.

I really enjoy teaching and tutoring because not only am I helping others, I am learning as well. Teaching and tutoring are about giving: giving your time, your knowledge, and the things that you know will help your students. Every student learns at his/her own pace. My teaching style is adaptive to the particular student and subject matter. I like to encourage students to learn for themselves. An example would be to explain a theory and then have the student(s) demonstrate their understanding of that theory with a concrete example, so that they are participating in the process. I like the idea of learning by participation.
Both my undergraduate and graduate collegiate experiences have given me ample knowledge and skills to draw from with regard to teaching and tutoring. The experience of doing it, however, gave me much more. While I was in graduate school at the Universit ... read more

I have been playing the guitar for 35 years. I have played professionally in numerous bands and have been a musician for most of my life. For the past 5 years I have been teaching friends, neighbors and their children how to play the guitar. I have developed a system which I believe enables the student to learn the basics of guitar quickly and easily. It provides a solid foundation for more advanced guitar studies or a simple and easy introduction to guitar for young or casual musicians. I have had a successful professional career as an advertising art director for the past 25 years and I am now looking to slow down a little and spend my time doing what I enjoy, playing and teaching music.

While earning my degree in physics at the University of Central Florida I found that tutoring was an excellent experience for both my students and me. I have tutored many different subjects including math(from algebra to differential equations), astronomy, physics, chemistry and biology. I taught middle school students through presentations of physics in films. I also aided my student in their research papers and power point presentations as I feel comprehension and writing skills are an important part of science. I truly enjoyed doing this and hope to continue tutoring and teaching.
Throughout my years of tutoring I have found that there are many different ways that people learn. Once you figure this out learning is easy and enjoyable.
