Though I received my degree last June, most of my teaching experience came while I was still learning. In high school, I worked as a museum docent for after-school programs - at one point trying to convince 3rd graders that M.C. Escher's life and work were as exciting as the afternoon TV they were missing. While in college, I worked for Apple computer, teaching adults in one-on-one tutoring sessions in computer usage. My method of studying for my finals was to show up to study groups not to learn the answers, but to reinforce my own learning by explaining the relevant topics to my peers. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is highly student focused. Instead of providing only textbook reading and writing my classroom focuses on having the students work hands on to create models of the systems they are learning so they can develop their own understanding of the material. I enjoy giving the students individual attention. I noticed that often students are ashamed to ask for help or ask questions in front of the class. It is important to walk around the classroom and ask students how they are doing and if they understand the concepts. Many times it only then will a student accept help. Students have a wide range of learning styles. It is important to remember that when helping students. I like to break down a lesson into simpler ideas so it is easier to learn.
Following my graduation from UHH, I was a substitute teacher and tutor for ESL students for 5 months. I have worked students coming from all types of backgrounds. Recently, I have begun substitute teaching again and have been for an additional 4 months. I enjoy working with the students and seeing them excel.
