Every child has his/her own learning style. I think it is important to first determine how each child best learns – either visual, auditory, or tactile. I can then tailor my instruction to the needs of each student. In general, I believe that people learn best by ‘doing’. Throughout high school and college I showed proficiency for mathematics as well as an ability to help teach those around me. After college I became a pension analyst and have studied for several actuarial exams. In my current position one of my responsibilities is to educate new hires or colleges on systems and processes. My oldest is a national merit scholar finalist, and my youngest son is captain of his high school math team. Math is fun, like a puzzle-once the student sees this fact, they begin having more fun and less fear of the subject.
I am a patient teacher, and I use many different ways of communication. I try to find the style of learning best suited to my pupil. Removing the fear of the subject seems to be the most important part.
