My comments on tutoring Psychology : Studied Psychology at Ashford University for three years, before leaving Ashford to pursue my own interests in Psychology and Writing skills.

I go with the styles that fit the student. I generally use the first couple of visits to assess what works best for the student and then work with the student in a calm and patient yet firm manner. I do not try to force results, every student learns differently and has different aptitudes. Therefore, it wiser not to push the student too hard for results, rather I push myself to find new and inventive ways to help students learn the material.
Took three years of college courses on Psychology at Ashford University, trained with a Computer Troubleshooting Specialist for four years, have two books of my own written word poetry published. In my time at Ashford I picked plenty of shareable skills, study skills, time management, and using my keyboard to it's fullest potential to meet deadlines. While training with the Computer Troubleshooter, I learned more about how to use software and t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience teaching all levels of students from grade school to the college level. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Management Information Systems from the University of South Florida but found I was more interested in teaching. Since graduation I have been looking for new opportunities to teach students of all levels. I excel in tutoring students in writing research papers, English, History and the sciences.
I am a very patient and easy going instructor. I believe that teaching should be done in a calm and supportive environment. My teaching style allows the students to discover their own hidden abilities. I help foster a curious mind and encourage each student to excel in life. A good education can make a huge difference in the life of a child and I help children realize that.

I have always provided a positive learning-centered environment in my classroom by just being myself and being honest with my students. I have an open door policy that meant I was always available to provide support and help to students when they needed it, but at the same time I think I provided an even balance with my expectations of them. The type of teacher and person that I am reflects directly into my teaching style. I always bring real life situations into the classroom. Aside from just the text material, I always try to get my students to look outside the box from all angles. I really want them to be prepared for any situation that may arise. I feel they really need to be prepared for what the real world is going to throw at them. I have always tried to use a variety of different methods to help my students learn in the classroom.

A Little Bit About Me...

After receiving my Master's degree in Political Science, I obtained my Statement of Eligibility to teach in Florida and was hired to teach a combined 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade class in Social Studies at Lake Eola Charter School in Orlando, during which time I created the elementary Social Studies curriculum for the school. The following year, I taught American Government and Economics at West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida. During these two years of teaching, I was also teaching Political Science part-time as an adjunct professor at Valencia Community College in Orlando. After my year of teaching high school, I taught college full-time for a year, then continued teaching college part-time for a year and a half after that. Additionally, while a graduate student, I tutored elementary-aged children in reading, social studies, basic math, and science.

Freshness of ideas, participative decision-making, and openness to suggestions characterizes my preferred teaching style. My experience has taught me that school curriculum should start with the long-term goals of making meaning and transference of learning. As an educator, I strive to be sure my students: a. acquire important information and skills, and b. transfer learning to new situations. Teaching with meaning and transfer requires authentic demands and application of the new skills and information. Students will not perform, and learning will be short term if they are not given authentic learning opportunities. It truly does take a village to raise a child. I am proud to be a member of this village.

Growing up, I never thought that I would want to be a teacher. After taking a job as a Childcare Counselor with the YMCA, I realized the I was meant to teach and work with children. I have been working with the YMCA for close to three years. I graduated from Manatee Community College with my Associate’s degree in May of 2009. A Little Bit About Me...

I possess a very eclectic and kinesthetic teaching style. I believe that children learn best when as many senses as possible are used in teaching them. When a child sees, hears, touches, smells, and sometimes tastes what they are learning, their brains are using multiple connections to hardwire whatever you are trying to teach them, therefore they will be more apt to remember than if taught by rote. I also believe that it's necessary to think about their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social well-being while they are learning. Children need to move. They will not retain as much information if they are not given breaks in routine at least every 15 to 20 minutes. Their intellect needs to be stimulated, they will not retain information they believe to be irrelevant. Therefore, it is our job as educators to show them how they can apply what they learn to their everyday environm ... read more
