After having raised 4 children, I know that each child has a different learning style. One may be very able to understand abstract thoughts and teaching styles while the other may not. Therefore, tutoring must be done on a very individual basis. I believe it is the teacher's responsibility to listen and observe each child so that the appropriate teaching style can be effectively used for each child in an effective and relaxed manner.
As a mom of 4 children ages 16-23, a college graduate, and a community volunteer I have a great deal of knowledge in the areas of mentoring and encouraging youth. First I like to try to ask them where they are having trouble or watch them do some problems to see where they are having troubles. Where I find the problem I would show them the correct ways to approach a problem and prove it to them or use other methods to help them understand how the concepts work. I'm a good listener and very patient with students. Also with my computer science background, especially in statistics related applications, I can make demonstrations do demonstrate or even solve problems.
I often helped people with their math regardless if it was 3rd grade or college level. I'm always offering my help to friends around the area or even online.
